Parween Warsi

Perween Warsi was fed up with the quality of Asian food in British supermarkets. Rather 'than tolerate curries that tasted of boiled plastic', she set up S&A Foods in 1987, and now supplies Asda and Safeway. The company employs 1000 people and has an annual turnover approaching £70 million. Perween Warsi, who is now Director of the company, started making finger foods for a local takeaway in her own kitchen in 1986. More and more orders started to flow in and she took on a couple of women to help her with the growing business. Soon there were five product lines and they were making hundreds of items a week. After 12 meteoric years S&A shows no sign of slowing down and there is an export business flourishing.
