| Awards for Excellence Al-Khayyal Theatre Company
Al-Khayyal Theatre Company is a group of professional actors who use drama to present Islamic ideals. Their plays have attracted both Muslim and non-Muslim audiences. Rave reviews were received for The Conference of the Birds, Al Attar's allegorical play staged in 1998. The professionally staged performance was all the more remarkable for the fact that many of the actors performed voluntarily and the performance and its staging was completely unfunded. The fact that there have been no recent performances shows the extent to which this important area is marginalized in the Muslim community and by the mainstream - something that needs to be rectified.
