| Awards for Excellence GymnAsian
GymnAsian was established 8 years ago to promote healthy living among Muslims in Gloucester. In addition to providing fitness facilities for men and women of all ages, it provides free advice on employment, education, drugs, crime, social welfare and religious and racial integration. The project evolved from an informal group of young Muslims interested in health and fitness meetings in sheds, garages and basements to becoming a large commercially equipped facility catering for over a hundred people a week from over 15 nationalities. GymnAsian fundamentally tries to promote the take-up of exercise in a culturally sensitive environment, recognising the fact that not only does regular exercise prevent ill-health and disease but it also increases feelings of self-worth and self-esteem.
