| Awards for Excellence The Muslim Women's Help Line
The Muslim Women's Help Line provides a nationwide lifeline for women facing social and domestic problems, including emotional and physical abuse, parent-child relations and forced marriages. It is staffed and funded by volunteers. It has been in operation for almost 10 years and although a reactive service, has attempted to make the community aware about social issues through talks, articles and conferences. During 1998 it received over 3000 calls from women. Its work in the area of Muslim women and mental health has achieved recognition, as has its work in the area of forced marriage. It stresses the progressive attributes of an Islamic lifestyle.
