Noel Malcolm

Noel Malcolm is a historian and journalist specializing in the Balkans. His books Bosnia: a Short History and Kosovo: a Short History are a must for a thorough understanding of current events in both regions. He has been a forceful critic of western policy on the Balkans and highlighted the hypocrisy and injustice of the stance taken towards President Slobodan Milosovic in particular and the Serbian government generally. In a review of General Sir Michael Rose's account of the Bosnian conflict, Malcolm highlights the fact that there was hostility to the idea of Bosnian Government and specifically its 'Muslim' component because it was opposed to the strategy imposed by the west to secure a ceasefire: a strategy which involved emasculating the Bosnians. Bosnia and Kosova have been defining conflicts in the west and in a situation of almost universal media moral bankruptcy on the issue, his work has been crucial in redressing the balance to some extent, at least. Malcolm's journalism appears in the weekly Spectator magazine Telegraph newspapers.
