British Muslim charities send over £700,000 of aid to Kosovar refugees

Two British Muslim charities are sending over £700,000 worth of aid for the humanitarian work for the Kosovar refugees, reports The Muslim News.

Islamic Relief Worldwide, established in 1984, have spent $365,000 to help the refugees in Albania. They will be extending their programme to Macedonia. Islamic Relief has sent an assessment team from USA, Holland and UK to oversee the distribution of aid. It already has a permanent base in Albania, established in 1992 and has been working to help the refugees since June 1998 when the refugees began arriving into Albania because of 'ethnic cleansing' by the Serbs.

Muslim Aid, which was established in 1985, announced today that it was making an emergency donation of £500,000 to help the humanitarian work for the Kosovar refugees in Albania, Macedonia and Montenegro. It has already distribute £110,000 worth of food and medicines. Muslim Aid is working closely with local organisation in the distribution of its aid. Over half a million Kosovars have been made refugees and both Islamic Relief and Muslim Aid are appealing for more donations.
