Malaysia: Pakistan, India play out draw in Junior Asia Cup

07-05-2012

Pakistan and India played out an exciting 2-2 draw in their Junior Asia Cup hockey match in Melaka, Malaysia.

Mohammad Dilber and Mohammad Irfan gave Pakistan the lead in the first and second halves respectively but Amit Rohidas and skipper Akashdeep Singh equalized for the defending champions.

Pakistan opened the scoring after just five minutes when Dilbur scored through Irfan’s pass. However, the Greenshirts were unable to sustain the lead as India equalized in the nineteenth minute through Rohidas and the first half ended with a scoreline of 1-1.

In the sixth minute of the second half, Irfan slotted in from the penalty corner but India’s aggressive style of play resulted in another equalizer in the 60th minute when Akashdeep scored.

Both teams have played and won one match each previously in the tournament; Pakistan edged past China 1-0 while India thrashed Sri Lanka 11-0.

Pakistan, who have won the tournament thrice previously, play their final group match on Monday against Sri Lanka while India face China.
