Philippines: Flooding displaces 5,000 people in S Philippines

11-01-2013

MANILA, (Xinhua): About 5,000 people were displaced by floods caused by continuous rains in southern Philippines, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said Friday.

The agency said the affected residents came from 37 villages in six provinces in Mindanao.

The bad weather affecting the southern provinces of Agusan del Norte, Surigao del Norte, and Surigao del Sur also resulted in the suspension of classes in some schools.

On Friday morning, a low pressure area was spotted at 380 kilometers southeast of General Santos City, bringing rains to parts of southern Philippines.
