India: 6 year old girl raped, dumped on roads in New Delhi

15-02-2013

NEW DELHI, (Xinhua): In a shocking reminder of the horrific gangrape case of a 23-year-old Delhi University medical student, a six-year-old girl from the satellite town of Gurgaon was raped and then brutalized before being dumped on the roads in the Indian capital, a senior police official said Friday.

The girl was spotted lying in a pool of blood and crying at 10 p.m. Thursday night by a motorist who informed the police, he said, on condition of anonymity.

"The victim was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital where doctors operated upon her. She is now out of danger and medical examination has confirmed rape. We have launched a major manhunt to track down those responsible for the brutal act," the official said.

Preliminary probe indicates that the victim was raped in Gurgaon and then dumped in the national capital to divert police, he said.

The latest incident came barely three months after the gangrape of the 23-year-old victim shocked the nation and sparked massive public outcry.

The victim was gangraped and mercilessly beaten up along with her boyfriend by six men on a moving bus which the duo had boarded on December 16 last year after watching a movie at a multiplex in the south of the national capital. She later succumbed to her injuries at a hospital in Singapore.

Five of the six accused are on trial, facing rape and murder charges which carry a maximum of death penalty. The sixth accused, being below 18 years of age, is being tried according to the juvenile law which entails a maximum of three years in a reform facility.
