Pakistan: 'Balochistan situation can spread nationwide'

ISLAMABAD, (The News): Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry remarked that if the situation in Balochistan was not taken seriously, the problem can spread nationwide.



During proceedings of the Hazara killings suo moto case, the Supreme Court expressed dissatisfaction over the report of the Balochistan government, while Chief Justice Chaudhry criticized the provincial government for failing to reach the root of the problem and taking inadequate steps for protecting the Hazara community.



The Chief Secretary, IG Balochistan, Home Secretary, IG FC and all other officials have been directed to submit a joint report which should outline what steps have been taken to restore peace in the province.



Jafria Alliance leader, Allama Abbas Kumaili informed the apex court that the affected had not been provided compensation, adding that they wanted peace instead of compensation. The apex court also directed the government to provide compensation to the those affected by the Quetta carnage.



The Additional Advocate General was reprimanded by the Chief Justice for taking action against criminals without a proper trial.



The hearing of the case has been adjourned till March 6.
