RABAT, (Xinhua): Moroccan foreign affairs ministry summoned Spanish ambassador in Rabat, Alberto Jose Navarro Gonzalez, on Thursday over the deaths of seven Moroccan migrants off the Spanish coast, according to a statement issued by the Moroccan ministry.
The incident took place near Lanzarote, the easternmost island of the Canary Islands.
Spanish El Pais newspaper posted on its website a video showing that a ship of Spanish Coast Guard appeared to "deliberately" collide with a small boat carrying Moroccan migrants on Dec. 13, 2012.
A victim was found drowned, six others considered missing, while 17 others were rescued.
The Moroccan ministry has requested Spain to provide all information related to this tragedy.
The Moroccan security services are in close contact with the Spanish side to shed light on the incident's circumstances and determine which party should be held responsible, the statement said.
