Cross-Govt anti-Muslim hatred group launched
By Ahmed J Versi
The Coalition Government has launched cross-Government anti-Muslim hatred group this month.
Deputy Prime Minister, Nick Clegg, told The Muslim News that the group, which is made up of Civil Servants, academics and members of the Muslim community, will use data on ant-Muslim hate crimes and they will see “what can be done to tackle it and all of that is done with the very strong support of the police.” The group, which has been set up under Clegg’s authority, “will look at all the research necessary to understand both the dimensions and the causes of anti-Muslim hatred crimes and violence.”
The Deputy Prime Minister acknowledged that the previous Labour Government had set up bodies to monitor anti-Muslim hate crimes, but this initiative will be “comprehensive” and “rigorous” and it will draw on the initiatives within the Muslim community in the past and “on successful initiatives which have identified and tackled prejudiced violence in other communities as well.”
The cross-Government group will be “making recommendations to me on what we need to do in order to stamp out this unacceptable level of prejudice. I will stop at nothing to make sure that we protect law abiding peaceful Muslims that are going about their daily life and their daily business from harassment from prejudice from violence and from anti-Muslim crime,” Clegg said.
