Iran national Ramadan theme song for London Olympics

25-07-2012

TEHRAN, (Tehran Times): Iran has composed and produced a national theme song for the London Olympics 2012.

The Office for Ritual Songs, which is affiliated with the Voice of the Islamic Republic of Iran, was commissioned to produce the song entitled “Song of Glory”, the office director Ebrahim Taheri said on Wednesday.

The Olympic Games coincide with the nights of the 19th, 21st, and 23rd of Ramadan known as the ‘grand nights’[on one of which the Quran was sent down to the Prophet Muhammad (S)], he said.

“The Iranian athletes who have been dispatched to the Olympics are likely to win the games during these nights, so the song has been produced in a way to respect these nights as well,” he said.

He added that the poetry for “Song of Glory” was composed by Abdojabbar Kakaii and Bijan Arjan, and singers Ali Khodaii and Fariborz Ghaffari collaborated in this composition.

Iran has sent 54 athletes to the London Games, including eight women, to compete in table tennis, hammer throwing, kayaking, rowing, archery, taekwondo and women’s 10m air rifle.

The London Olympics 2012 begins on July 27, and ends on August 12.
