UK: Servet Tazegül wins Turkey's first Olympic gold in men's taekwondo

10-08-2012

Today's Zaman with AP:

Servet Tazegül of Turkey has won the Olympic taekwondo gold medal in the men's 68-kilogram division on Thursday.

The 23-year-old Tazegül is the world No. 1 and defeated Mohammad Bagheri Motamed of Iran by a score of 6 to 5 in a closely fought final where he was often in attack mode, throwing several combinations of spinning or jumping kicks.

But despite the acrobatics, Tazegül rarely scored - unlike the rest of his fights Thursday. It was a subdued final after a day of forcing his opponents to adapt to his high-paced fight style where none were able to match the fluidity of his kicks.
