Pakistan: 23 Pakistani soldiers confirmed dead in road accident

16-03-2013

ISLAMABAD, (Xinhua): At least 23 Pakistani soldiers were killed and five others injured when a coaster fell into a trench on Saturday, Army confirmed.

Inter-Service Public Relation (ISPR), the mouthpiece of Pakistani army, said that a coaster carrying 25 soldiers and two civilians fell into a trench on Karakorum highway near Kohistan, an administrative district in the northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

The soldiers were going to their work station in Gilgit Baltistan from northern city of Rawalpindi after spending vacations, said the ISPR.

According to initial reports, the accident took place when the coaster negotiated a sharp turn, apparently due to negligence of driver.

Earlier, district police officer Akbar Ali said that the road accident left 24 soldiers dead and four others injured.
