Singhal terms Gujarat violence ‘Hindu valour’

06-05-2002

Lucknow, Deccan Herald News Service

VHP leader Ashok Singhal today glorified the Gujarat riots as signs of “Hindu valour” and it was a divine force which had given the Hindus the courage to stand up to attackers. He hoped that the same spirit would help build the Ram temple in Ayodhya.
Inaugurating a programme at RSS headquarters here, Mr Singhal said the Hindus had for the first time in 1,000 years given their attackers a befitting reply. “The valour shown in Gujarat will not end there,” he said in an ominous tone. “The VHP will take this message to the remotest corners of the country through its Ram jap programmes,” he said.
Mr Singhal said that in the post-Gujarat scenario, the government would have to think twice before stalling the VHP’s programmes in Ayodhya as it did with the ‘Shiladaan’ on March 15.
Linking the Gujarat riots with Godhra and other incidents of history, Mr Singhal said the Jehadi mentality which raised its head in the country with the demolition of the temple in Ayodhya “will find its nemesis here only”. He said Parliament had become a platform to abuse Hindus. He also attacked Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah for “hatching a conspiracy” to evict Hindus from Jammu as happened in the Kashmir valley.
