Awards for Excellence

Professor Alimuddin Zumla

Professor Zumla is a Muslim physician scientist who has excelled in his work despite nearly losing his life to meningitis when a junior doctor. He is Professor of Infectious Diseases and International Health at University College London and Consultant Infectious Diseases Physician at University College Hospital. He set up the London TB Link Project to assess access to care by disadvantaged people and has highlighted AIDS and TB problems in developing countries through his advocacy writing and work with NGOs. He was awarded the Albert Chalmers Medal by the Royal Society for Tropical Medicine and the Windrush Award for Academic Achievement in 2003.
